Questions
What families ask us
How does admissions work?
Families visit, apply and hear back within two weeks of a visit day. The admissions page lists each step and the months they fall in.
When are open houses and visit days?
Open houses are in October and February. Visit days run on Wednesdays from September to May, and the Book a visit button at the top of any page books one.
Can we visit before applying?
Yes. A visit day is how most families begin. Your child sits in on a morning, you see all three rooms and you talk with a guide.
What is a work cycle?
It is the long morning stretch, close to three hours, when each student chooses work from the shelves, takes lessons from a guide and finishes what was started. The guides keep track of what each student has done and what comes next.
How is Spanish taught?
Spanish is its own subject, taught in a daily block after lunch by guides who speak Spanish. It starts with songs, stories and everyday phrases and grows into reading, writing and discussion in the older rooms. The other lessons are in English.
Does my child need to speak Spanish to start?
No. Some students come from Spanish-speaking homes and some have never heard it in a lesson. Each student starts where they are, and the guides pair the work to match.
What happens when a child moves up a room?
The guides and the family talk first. A student is usually working with the next room's materials before the move, and the new room's guide visits the old one to meet them.
How big are the rooms?
Each room has up to 14 students. The rooms page lists each room's size beside its ages.
How does tuition work, and how do we ask about aid?
Tuition depends on the room, the days a week and extended day. The tuition page explains how a place is held and how to ask about financial aid, and the office goes through the figures at a visit.
Is there care before or after school?
An extended day runs after dismissal on the days a family chooses. Ask the office at a visit how it works for your family.
Can my child come part of the week?
Yes. Families choose three days or five. The guides plan the week's lessons so a student on three days still sees the work cycle and the Spanish block.
How does the school talk with families?
Guides write a note home every Friday, in Spanish and English. Families meet the guides at conferences in the fall and spring, and the office answers calls and messages in either language.
Still have a question?
Write to the office or book a visit day.
